About Us

The Charlie Murray CSC was set up in 2003 after the untimely passing of Charlie Murray Snr, Charlie a staunch Celtic fan who hailed from Belfast and grew up with Celtic legend Charlie Tully. Charlie was an inspiration to all that met him and he carried his love of Celtic through the bad times and the good, his stories of travelling to games and of bygone Celtic Greats would make you smile on the darkest of days, and he also had a cheeky smile for anyone he seen in the famous green n white hoops, it was because of this the attendees of the inaugural meeting agreed to name the newly formed supporters club after Charlie, the meeting was attended by both young and old, family and friends of Charlie and genuine Celtic fans from surrounding areas, an AGM was called for the 27 of July and a committee was duly elected by the soon to be members, the original committee was made up of Peter Fitzgerald (Chairman), Paul Ferguson (Secretary) Gerard Breen (PRO), Charlie Murray Jnr (Treasurer) John Cullen (Merchandise) Des Monaghan also played a valuable part in the establishment of the club with his contacts and ideas, for which we are very grateful.

As a base was needed to watch games and hold functions Des suggested the Belsfort Inn which at the time was run by Davy Fitzgerald the All Ireland Winning goalkeeper with the Clare Hurling team of 1995/1997, Davy was only too happy to accommodate ,and so the Charlie Murray CSC Shannon was born. As with all Celtic supporters clubs the constitution was drawn up to include annual charitable donations and fundraisers and also to join the AICSC, the core membership for the club for season 2003/2004 was a very healthy 98 members.

The Charlie Murray CSC has moved it's base to the "Old Lodge" where all can enjoy watching the Hoops. The club has now established itself as a known and respected club within the Celtic community and even had the honour of hosting the quarterly meeting for the Association of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs in April 2007. Following the meeting, which was attended by representatives from clubs from all over the country, a great night was had by all in "The Lodge" which went on until the early hours.

The Charlie Murray CSC continues to go from strength to strength. Each St Patrick's Day the Club march with the tri-colour in the parade, has a kids Christmas party for it's junior members and aids other clubs within the community with trips to Glasgow to see Celtic matches. In the June 2008 the Club was able to provide sweat shirts for the Celtic In The Community Football Camp which was run by Shannon Town AFC. This year the Club is delighted to be sponsoring the Shannon Town under 7's team and hopefully with the connection between Shannon Town and Celtic we might one day see one of these starlets turning out for the Hoops.
